Photography Workshop

March 30 – April 1, 2026

MAKE MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME

Join us on an Unforgettable Journey to Mowdy Ranch, one of four wild horse sanctuaries designated as a public off range pasture for the (BLM) Bureau of Land Management! Where else can you be guaranteed to see wild mustangs without experiencing fruitless days searching for the elusive mustang. This workshop is not only an opportunity to photograph the mustangs in 4000 acres  of wooded hills and open valleys, but also to join a group of fun-loving, passionate mustang lovers on a shared mission of creating iconic, magical, impactful images. You'll be personally guided by renowned mustang photographer Tim West and ignite – or re-ignite – your sense of wonder at these magnificent creatures. This is your invitation to experience 400 wild mustangs and bring home images that will stay in your heart forever and be proud to hang on your wall. There will be a maximum of 12 participants.

Make memories to last a lifetime

This is more than a photo tour. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone with any degree of photography skills – from iPhones to Mirrorless DSLR’s – to catch the shot. The hills and sunsets of southeastern Oklahoma are famously beautiful and offer photographers a rare opportunity to photograph wild mustangs (and quite often other wildlife) at ease on the range.

Touring in an open air UTV offers guests a unique opportunity for a close up experience with the mustangs. Tim West, along with Jeff Lewis and Peggy Swords, will be guiding you in the field on composition and shot selection.

Tim West

Tim West is a fine art photographer based in Tennessee whose work focuses on the wild horses of the American West. While his career began in portrait and studio photography, his artistic direction shifted after time spent on public lands in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah, where he encountered free-roaming mustangs living far from human control.

West returns to these remote landscapes several times a year with his wife, often working in early morning light and unpredictable weather, documenting the horses as they exist naturally on the range. His photographs emphasize individuality, resilience, and quiet presence rather than spectacle, capturing moments of stillness as often as moments of motion.

Rather than staging or influencing behavior, West allows the horses and the land to dictate the pace of his work. Many of his images reflect the marks of life on the range — scars, weathered coats, and alert expressions — which have become a recurring theme in his photography.

Through his photography, West hopes to foster a deeper awareness of America’s remaining wild horse herds and the landscapes they call home.

In retirement, he turned fully to photography, embracing a process defined by patience, technical mastery, and thoughtful decision-making.

His work focuses on landscape and wild mustang photography, where light, timing, and composition are carefully considered both in the field and in post-processing. Through his images, Jeff seeks to capture a sense of place, movement, and quiet presence—revealing the depth behind what may at first appear effortless.

Eachphotograph is created to live beyond the moment, inviting pause, memory, and quiet meaning into everyday spaces.
