The pirate tower at Laguna Beach is a sight to behold! At sunset, the waves came in and the sand between my toes felt cold, wet, and refreshing. The ocean air smells salty and the seagulls are getting ready to settle down for the night. It was November of 2019, two years since my wife and I had moved away from the area. We missed it so much, and to find this mysterious 60-ft. tower was such a gift.
As we talked to other onlookers, we discovered it was built in 1926 as an enclosed staircase down to the beach for a Los Angeles senator, William Brown. Although there have always been tales of pirates' treasure, those stories were more fun that fact.
Unfortunately, we also discovered that the tide would cover the beach within the hour making walking difficult, so I had to move fast. I actually took about 100 shots, some close up and others further back, to be sure I captured every element of this fantastic structure. This is my favorite, and the one we have hanging on our wall.
